Interview with KAMERIAN
q)Walk us through an intimate day in your life
a)I work as a graphic designer during
daytime.
I am designing mainly about erotic books
and erotic videos such as adults.
On the other hand, I also work as an
artist.
I am making art works after work is over and
holidays.
q) Where did you grow up/where do you live now and how
does that contribute to your art?
a)I was born in Tokyo and brought up in
Tokyo.
I grew up in the countryside, not in the
city center of Tokyo.
Because it is the country side, nature
is rich. I grew up fishing crayfish in the river.
Tokyo is narrow, it can easily go out to
the city center. I think that it is an exciting city as various cultures are
mixed together and show a completely different color for each city.
Japanese chaotic culture has a great
influence on my production as well.
I get inspiration from manga and tattoo,
I think that Tokyo is suitable for
obtaining such information.
q) What is your earliest memory that propelled you to
create?
a)I have always liked drawing since long
ago.
I was an introverted personality. I was
just doodling on the desk.
I love to draw pictures because my
mother's caricature was praised.
q) Tell us a little bit about your creative process.
a)The theme that I made a part of my
work is "childish and violent".
Recently I've been handling
"greed" and making works.
I print the things worked digitally and
add effects by screen print.
q) How do you wish for your art to be perceived?
a)Tragic things are often happening in
my art work.
It is "death",
"violence" and "adultery".
People who saw them may think that 'poor
thing' and 'horrible'.
However, the scene in the picture is
what is repeatedly done everyday in our life.
Humans are cruel and take other lives.
Because they are alive.
"Greed" is an indispensable
energy to live.
What I am painting is the image of
desperate "life" to live ugly and to live.
q) What do your internal dialogues sound like?
a)I always make dialogues with myself as
to what to draw and what color it is.
Since color is a very important element
in my work, the amount of dialogue is especially large.
q) Do you feel that there are limitations to what you
want to create?
a)As of now I am promoting a figure
project, but Ideally I would like to also produce very enormous three
dimensional works.
However, because of the enormous budget,
I think there is a limit in that sense.
q) Do you feel art is vital to survival and if so,
why?
a)I think that ART is necessary.
ART is a proof that humans lived, and
also has an important role to understand that era.
q) Describe a world without art.
a)The world without ART is like a pizza
with no cheese.
q) Tell us a secret, and obsession.
a)Not particularly
q) Where can people see more of your work on the
internet?
a)My home page is here.
I will have a solo exhibition in
Switzerland from October.
Everyone
in Europe please come and visit!
