Interview with Tamás Lakos

q) Please tell us your name and where you practice.

a)My name is Tamás Lakos, i come from Budapest.
Im in my final year at the uni (MOME) study media design, graphic design.

q) Why do you make art?

a)I do make art because it makes me feel much better and to draw out my impressions.
I'd always been doing this since i remember.

q) How do you work ?

a)I dont really like to work alone but sometimes yes.
Have some groups i do exhibitions with, sometimes, that could be inspirative.
Recently i do zines, skatchbooks, i love the process.
Furthermore Im preparing my final work at school.

q) What´s your background?

a)Group of seagulls are fighting with a cat.
I was born in a artist family but they didnt want me to be artist. Now i understand, but its good like this.

q) What role does the artist have in society?

a)There are a lot of different roles. You do always reflect what is around you subconsciously or consciously, in your way.

q) What was a seminal experience for you ?

a)I dont really remember for the very firs but sure all's came from my parents, probably my fathers paintings from his young age, in my grandparents home and a friends drawings in high school.

q) Has your practice changed over time ?

a)Sure. Its thrilling always. It'd be nice to document this transformation.

q) What art do you most identify with ?

a)I dont know, i guess my art.

q) What´s your strongest memory of your childhood ?

a)I have some nice memories fishing with my father at the lake or playing in the sand with some plastic toys, cars, GIjoes in my grandfather little garden between the vine stocks.

q) What themes do you pursue ?

a)I like to put animals in human's chair and weird stories.

q) Describe a real life experience that inspired you.

a)Two seagulls is steping on a car top, fighting over a dead pigeon body, down on the ground are some cats watching.
I felt like loosing human being. It was crazy thrilling.

q) What´s your most embarrassing moment ?

a)when i loose control.

q) What jobs have you done other than being an artist ?

a)Doing art has never been a job for me. I had many different design jobs, especially with architectures. (and when i was younger some garden building and ice cream seller job)

q) What responses have you had to your work ?

a)There are responses all the field of life especially to yourself.

q) What do you dislike about the artworld ?

a)Im not really in artworld, i dont have the bad experiences yet.
I behave as a good worker.

q) What research do you do ?

a)Collecting information every time about what you do. It is very important and instructive.

q) What is your dream project?

a) I have more, one of them is to paint a huge mural.

q) What´s the best piece of advice you have been given ?

a)Dont be nervous has always been given.

q) What couldn’t you do without?

a)I could do i guess.

q) What makes you angry?

a)There are very few things can make me angry. Anyway I try not to be.

q) What is your worst quality?

a)When i loose weight.

q) Dogs or Cats ?

a)dog

q) Making art is a lot like being on lsd. Know what I mean ?

a)i dont.

q) What does “ copy” mean to you ?

a)Its good to copy sometimes to create something new after.

q) What´s your favorite cuss word ?

a)dont have favorite.
