q)What is your name?
a)Lorenzo Mariani.
q) Where do you live and work?
a)Actually, I live and work in Milan.
q)What is your creative process like?
a)I consider it more like a documentaristic analysis instead of a "creative process". I like to work in a post-production way.
q)What is your favorite medium?
a)Pencils on paper.
q)What is your current favorite subject?
a)I'm quite interested in the connections between underground musical genres and visual arts.
q)How long does it take for you to finish a piece?
a)For an A4 drawing, usually one week.
q)What has been your biggest accomplishment so far?
a)Working with people I estimate and being estimated too.
q)Are there any contemporary artists that you love?
a)I love the whole history of art, so I love too many artists to be named.
q)Can we buy your art anywhere?
a)You can buy my pieces directly from me.
q)Anything that people should know about that we don’t??
a)I guess nothing.
q)What is your best piece of advice for those who would like to rise in their level of artistry?
a)Do your best and don't look to the trends. Instead, study art movements because lots of contemporary artists are just copying works did years ago.
q)What inspires you to keep going when the work gets frustrating or tough?
a)Simple, if the work doesn't interest me, I don't continue.
q)How do you describe your work to those who are unfamiliar with it?
a)My work is mainly about contemporary music and how the genres displays a strong connection with specific imageries. Every single band and artist has got a personal "look" which is often taken from cliches inspired from other bands. It's quite interesting to see how this relations came from different fields such as the history of art or the fashion for example.
The work consists in an on-going archive of drawings portraying musicians where I'm interested in. The archive is often installed also with music, documents and pictures.
q)What kind of training did you have which helped you achieve your current level of artistry?
a)Speaking about technic skills, it's a question of daily training. Unfortunately, art school doesn't help me at all.
q)Is there a tool or material that you can’t imagine living without?
a)My pencil, probably.
q)Who are your influences?
a)As I told before, the whole history of art. Also reality and life helps me a lot.
q)What inspires you to create?
a)My passion for art!
q)…your contacts…
