Interview with Antonio Pannullo






q) Well, first of all please tell us a little about yourself.


a)In the 80's I attended a course of designer. In the 90's I began to work professionally collaborating with advertsing agencies. My first exhibition was in 1990......


q) Had you always planned on being an artist [or had you other hopes]?


a)Always artist


q) Do you have a preferred medium to work on? Why?


a)Yes, I love natural supports like wood in particular because without surface primer the skin of the subject is very translucent, realistic.


q) How would you describe your style?


a)Realistic but also symbolical.


q) Do you go through any certain processes while trying to produce your work?


a)The first step is to find images. For example shoots of people in parties, concerts made by myself or sent me from friends of my space or photo gallery on internet. After I choose some of them to paint, I start the work on wood drawing just borders of the subject of the photos and I make lights and shades with oil colours.


q) What are you working on at present?


a)I just work on images of young boys and girls in the modern nights of metropolis around the world, not just of New York city but also of Moscow, Naples, etc.....


q) What about recent sources of inspirations?


a)This young people and underground tendencies inspire me in this moment.


q) What are some of your obsessions?


a)To search for anatomic deformations created by lens of camera.


q) Which galleries have you shown at and which galleries would you like to show at?


a)Changing Role - Move Over Gallery in Naples, Casoria Contemporary Museum, MIBAC - Museums Pole of Naples, Hypergallery in Milan, I'd like to show at National Portraits of London.


q) If people would like to contact you, how would you like to be contacted?


a)I prefer they contact me by e mail or my space.


q) Do you have any suggestions or advice for artists that are just starting out?


a)First of all they must consider art as fun and passion. I advise to not pay any people never in their life to promote their first works..........


q) Who are your favorite artists?


a)My favourite artists are Caravaggio and Bacon, but I like also the illustrators in general (Frazetta, Rockwell, Sorayama, Bisley).


q) What books are on your nightstand?


a)The $ 12 Million Stuffed Shark of Donald Thompson and Donde Mejor Canta un Pajaro of Alejandro Jodorowsky.


q) To what weaknesses are you most indulgent?


a)Shopping in book and music stores.
